Salesforce: How was marketing so successful in the early years? A case study.

When I worked at Salesforce in the early years as a contractor / freelancer, the marketing team was outstanding and were instrumental in driving huge growth every, single year. Over 10 years, the share price simultaneously rose by over 2,600% although unfortunately as a freelancer, I didn't own any shares! However, all this growth was testament to just how incredibly good the marketing department was and is.
